Structured Presentations (3–5 minutes)
A structured presentation is a short talk with a clear beginning, middle and end. You state a clear position, give arguments with evidence, mention the other side, and finish with a recommendation and a strong conclusion.
في الكتاب: Unit 4 (Summative Assessment) بيطلب *a structured (3 – 5) minute individual presentation with a clear position, two arguments with evidence, and a recommendation*. وفي وحدات تانية فيه presentations أقصر (2 – 3 minutes) زي *Heritage Day* في Unit 3، و*Environment Week* في Unit 6، و*Career and Passion Day* في Unit 7، و*Well-being Week* في Unit 9، و*Sustainability Week* في Unit 10.
Think of a presentation as a sandwich: the opening and the conclusion are the bread, and your arguments are the filling. Tell the audience what you will say, say it, then tell them what you said.
Have you ever wondered…? / Today I'm going to talk about… / I believe that… |
My first point is… / For example,… / This shows that… |
Moving on to my second point,… / According to… |
| ٤. Opposing view | اعترف بالرأي التاني ورد عليه | ٣٠ – ٤٥ ثانية | Some people believe that… However,… / Admittedly,… |
| ٥. Recommendation | اقترح حل أو نصيحة عملية محددة | ٣٠ ثانية | I would recommend that… / We should… / One practical step is… |
So, remember… / Thank you for listening. Are there any questions? |
Describe – Explain – Analyse – Reflect
Many presentations in the book ("guest speaker" tasks of 2–3 minutes) follow four verbs: Describe what it is, Explain why it matters, Analyse a deeper idea, Reflect / Evaluate (including a different view).
|---|---|---|
| Describe | اوصف الحاجة: إيه، فين، إمتى | The site is located in… / This hobby started in… |
This resource is shared by… |
| If it disappears, then… / One important turning point was… |
| Reflect / Evaluate | رأيك + الرأي التاني | For me, this shows… / Although some people believe…, I think… |
(Signposting)
Signposting language tells the audience where you are in your talk. It makes you easy to follow, like signs on a road.
الـ Peer Checklist في Unit 2 بيسأل: *Did the speaker use linking words (firstly, however, in conclusion…)?*

(Delivery)
How you speak matters as much as what you say. Use notes, not a script. Look at your audience, speak slowly and clearly, and pause after important points.
الكتاب في Unit 4 بيقول: *You may use brief notes (maximum 5). Do not read from a full script. Speak naturally.* وفي Unit 9: *I speak clearly and confidently.* يعني:
|---|---|
- Have you ever thrown away food that was still good?
- Did you know that around a third of all food produced in the world is wasted?
- Today, I'm going to argue that food waste is the biggest challenge for young people's future.
- I'll start with the causes, then I'll talk about the effects, and finally I'll give a recommendation.
- Moving on to my second point, …
- My recommendation is simple: write a shopping list before you go to the supermarket.
- So, the next time you open the fridge, remember: food is money, water and energy.
- Thank you for listening. Are there any questions?
Good morning, everyone. Have you ever bought something on sale, taken it home and then never used it? I think most of us have. Today, I'm going to argue that sale events, like Black Friday, are the biggest consumption challenge for young people today. I'll start with two arguments, then I'll look at the other side, and finally I'll give you a recommendation.
Firstly, sale events encourage impulse buying. This means buying something quickly, without thinking, only because it looks cheap. Shops use words like "Only today!" and "Limited stock!" to make us feel that we must act now. For example, last November my cousin bought three pairs of trainers in one night because they were half price. Two pairs are still in their boxes. This shows that sales do not always save money. Sometimes they make us spend money we did not plan to spend.
Moving on to my second point, sale events increase waste. When people buy more than they need, many products end up thrown away or forgotten. According to the unit, unnecessary purchases lead to more waste, and every product we throw away also wastes the water, energy and materials used to make it. In addition, young people see these offers on social media all day, so the pressure on them is even stronger than on adults. This proves that the problem is not only about money. It is also about our planet.
Admittedly, sale events have some benefits. Some people believe they help families buy things they really need, such as a winter coat or a laptop for school, at a lower price. I understand this point, and it is true for careful shoppers. However, most sale advertising does not target careful shoppers. It targets our emotions. So even though sales can be useful, the harm they cause is still greater.
So, what can we do? My recommendation is simple: before any sale, write a list of what you really need and set a budget. If an item is not on your list, wait twenty-four hours before buying it. If you still need it the next day, it is probably a good decision.
To sum up, sale events push young people to buy without thinking, and they create waste that harms our planet. That is why I believe they are the biggest consumption challenge for our generation. So, the next time you see "50% off", remember: the best deal is sometimes not buying at all. Thank you for listening. Are there any questions?
- Opening: سلام + hook (سؤال للجمهور) + موقف واضح (*I'm going to argue that…*) + خريطة الكلام (*I'll start with…, then…, and finally…*).
This means…*) ← مثال حقيقي (ابن العم والجزم) ← ربط (*This shows that…*).
- Argument 2 بالـ JRE: *Moving on to my second point* ← دليل من الوحدة (*According to the unit…*) ← فكرة زيادة (*In addition*) ← ربط (*This proves that…*).
- Opposing view: *Admittedly* + *Some people believe* + رد بـ *However* + *even though* ← نفس اللي الكتاب طالبه في Black Friday: اعترف بفايدة وبعدين وضح إن الضرر أكبر.
- Recommendation: نصيحة عملية ومحددة (قايمة + ميزانية + استنى ٢٤ ساعة)، مش كلام عام زي *We should be careful*.
- ✗ تبدأ بـ *My topic is food waste.* وبس ← ✓ ابدأ بـ hook وقول رأيك وخريطة الكلام.
Admittedly… However…*
- ✗ توصية عامة: *We must save the planet.* ← ✓ توصية محددة: *Write a shopping list before every sale.*
That's it.* ← ✓ *To sum up,… Thank you for listening.*
As a young guide at your school's Heritage Day, prepare a 2–3 minute presentation about a heritage site and explain why it is important.
الحل باختصار: *Describe:* The Karnak Temple is located in Luxor. It was built over many centuries. ← *Explain:* It represents the power and beliefs of ancient Egypt. ← *Analyse:* One important idea it preserves is how Egyptians worked together on huge projects. ← *Reflect:* Although some people believe old sites are only for tourists, I think they teach us who we are.
(Unit 4 – Black Friday): *Choose your two strongest points… Acknowledge the other side… End with a strong conclusion.* ← نفس هيكل النموذج فوق بالظبط.
