Stative Verbs vs Action Verbs
الفرق بين أفعال الحركة اللي ينفع تيجي -ing (buy, scroll) وأفعال الحالة اللي بتفضل بسيطة (believe, want, own).
الدرس ده عن إيه؟
Action verbs describe things we do (buy, post, scroll). They can be continuous: She is scrolling. Stative verbs describe states, feelings, opinions and senses (believe, want, know). They are not normally continuous: She believes… (NOT *is believing*).
An action verb is like a video: it has a beginning, a middle and an end. A stative verb is like a photo: it just shows how things are.
تخيل فعل الـ action زي فيديو: فيه حركة، بيبدأ وبيخلص، وممكن تقول «أنا دلوقتي في نص الحاجة دي» ← I am scrolling = أنا بقلّب دلوقتي.
أما فعل الـ stative فهو زي صورة ثابتة: مفيهوش حركة، هو حالة موجودة وخلاص. إنت مش «في نص» إنك تعرف حاجة، إنت عارفها وبس ← I know the answer (مش I am knowing).
- She is scrolling through her feed right now.فعل حركة (action): هي بتقلّب في الصفحة دلوقتي. ينفع -ing.
- She believes that likes measure success.فعل حالة (stative): هي مقتنعة إن اللايكات بتقيس النجاح. ده رأي جواها مش حركة. ✗ is believing
السؤال اللي تسأله لنفسك: «هل أقدر أشوف الشخص ده وهو بيعمل الحاجة؟» تقدر تشوفه وهو بيشتري أو بينزّل بوست ← action. لكن مش هتقدر تشوفه وهو «بيعرف» أو «بيفضّل» ← stative.
أنواع الأفعال الـ Stative
Most stative verbs belong to five groups: thinking, feelings, senses, possession and other states.
علشان تحفظهم بسهولة، قسّمهم لـ 5 عائلات:
| المجموعة | الأفعال | المعنى بالعربي | مثال |
|---|---|---|---|
| تفكير ورأي (thinking) | believe, know, understand, think (= رأي), remember, forget, mean, realise, doubt, suppose, agree | بصدّق، أعرف، أفهم، أعتقد، أفتكر، أنسى، يقصد، يدرك، يشك… | I know this ad is persuasive. |
| مشاعر ورغبات (feelings) | love, like, hate, prefer, want, need, wish | أحب، أكره، أفضّل، عايز، محتاج، أتمنى | He hates feeling pressured to post. |
| حواس (senses) | see, hear, smell, taste, sound, seem, look (= يبان) | أشوف، أسمع، ريحته، طعمه، يبان، شكله | This offer seems too good to be true. |
| ملكية (possession) | own, have (= يملك), belong, possess, include, contain | يمتلك، عنده، ينتمي لـ / بتاع، يتضمن، يحتوي | She owns twenty pairs of shoes. |
| حالات تانية | cost, weigh, depend, deserve, matter, consist, fit | يكلّف، يوزن، يعتمد، يستاهل، يهم، يتكوّن من، يناسب (مقاس) | Cheap clothes cost the planet a lot. |
وأفعال الـ action اللي في الوحدة: buy, post, scroll, share, chase, click, order, shop, spend, throw away, repair, donate, swap, watch, listen, compare. دول كلهم ينفع يبقوا -ing عادي.
- العقل (رأي ومعرفة): believe, know, understand, think, remember
- القلب (مشاعر ورغبة): love, like, hate, prefer, want, need
- الحواس (اللي بيحصل لوحده): see, hear, smell, taste, seem
- الجيب (ملكية): own, have, belong, cost
- لو الفعل من العائلات دي ← ممنوع -ing في الغالب، حتى لو في الجملة now أو at the moment.
حتى مع now و at the moment!
Even with now or at the moment, a stative verb usually stays in the simple form: Right now, I want a new phone.
أكبر فخ في الامتحان: يحطوا لك now أو right now أو at the moment في الجملة علشان تختار المستمر. لكن لو الفعل stative، يفضل بسيط:
- Right now, he is buying a hat online.buy فعل حركة + Right now ← مستمر ✓
- Right now, he wants a new hat.want فعل حالة ← بسيط حتى مع Right now. ✗ is wanting
- At the moment, she prefers to save her money.prefer stative ← بسيط. ✗ is preferring
- I don't understand why I bought this.النفي برضه بسيط: don't understand. ✗ am not understanding
ونفس الكلام في الـ present perfect: مع stative بنستخدم البسيط مش المستمر: I have known her for years ✓ — مش I have been knowing ✗. I have wanted this phone since June ✓.
أفعال ليها معنيين: think, have, feel, look…
Some verbs are stative with one meaning and action verbs with another meaning. I think it's a good idea. (opinion) / I'm thinking about buying it. (process)
دي أهم نقطة في الدرس والكتاب بيركز عليها: فيه أفعال بتغيّر معناها. معنى منهم «حالة» ومينفعش -ing، والمعنى التاني «حركة» وينفع -ing.
| الفعل | Stative (حالة) — بسيط | Action (حركة) — ينفع -ing |
|---|---|---|
| think | I think this ad is misleading. (= رأيي) | I'm thinking about how to respond. (= بفكر دلوقتي) |
| have | She has three phones. (= تملك) | She is having lunch / a great time. (= بتاكل / بتقضّي) |
| feel | I feel that brands should be honest. (= رأيي) | I'm feeling tired today. (= إحساس جسمي دلوقتي، الاتنين مقبولين) |
| look | These shoes look expensive. (= شكلها) | I'm looking at the price tag. (= ببص) |
| see | I see what you mean. (= فاهم) | I'm seeing my friend tonight. (= هقابل) |
| taste / smell | This coffee tastes sweet. (= طعمه) | The chef is tasting the sauce. (= بيدوق) |
| weigh | The parcel weighs two kilos. (= وزنه) | The man is weighing the parcel. (= بيوزن) |
الحيلة: لو تقدر تحط «في رأيي» أو «شكله» أو «عنده» مكان الفعل ← stative وبسيط. لو تقدر تحط «بيعمل دلوقتي» ← action وينفع -ing.
ده بالظبط سؤال Review E: «Nour ______ the advert is misleading, but she ______ whether to report it or not.» الإجابة: believes / is considering. believe رأي ← بسيط، و consider هنا معناها «بتفكر وبتوزن الموضوع دلوقتي» ← مستمر.
هتشوفها في الإعلانات والكلام العادي، بس دي لغة غير رسمية. في الامتحان والكتابة امشي على القاعدة: I love it ✓.

- الخطوة 1: بص على الفعل نفسه قبل ما تبص على now. هل هو من العائلات الخمسة (عقل / قلب / حواس / جيب / حالات)؟ ← بسيط.
- الخطوة 2: لو فعل حركة، بص على كلمة الزمن: now / right now / at the moment / Look! / Listen! ← مستمر. every day / usually / always ← بسيط.
- الخطوة 3: لو الفعل من الأفعال اللي ليها معنيين (think, have, feel, look, see, taste) ← اسأل: «رأي / ملكية / شكل؟» ← بسيط. «حركة بتحصل؟» ← مستمر.
- في سؤال «find the mistakes»: دوّر على أي am / is / are + stative-ing وصلّحه للبسيط، وخلي بالك من does / doesn't مع he / she.
إزاي بييجي في الأسئلة؟
الأسئلة في الكتاب والمراجعات بتيجي بالأشكال دي. هنحل مثال لكل شكل:
