Stage 8 Science — Practice Test 3
A full two-paper practice test (2 × 45 minutes, 2 × 50 marks) set in a gym, a fertiliser factory, an island, a space mission, a cycling trip, a theatre and a climate project — with automatic marking and full worked solutions.
British & IGCSE › Checkpoint 8 › Checkpoint 8 Science — Complete Course
This is a full end-of-Stage-8 practice test in the style of the Cambridge Lower Secondary Science tests: two papers, 45 minutes each, 50 marks each. It covers Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth and Space, with Thinking and Working Scientifically questions built in. The Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint itself is taken at the end of Stage 9; this test prepares you for your Stage 8 end-of-year tests, which are written in the same style.
Before you start
- Paper 1: 45 minutes, 50 marks. Paper 2: 45 minutes, 50 marks. Both papers mix all the strands, and every strand can appear in both papers.
- Calculator: the Cambridge Checkpoint Science Paper 1 cover says you may use a calculator, so Paper 1 here allows one. The calculator rule for Paper 2 is not printed on the papers we have seen, so ask your teacher what your school allows; every calculation in Paper 2 can also be done by hand.
- Equipment: a black or dark blue pen, and an HB pencil for any diagrams or graphs. Do not use correction fluid.
- Answer all the questions. The marks for each part are shown in brackets [ ] — a [2] answer needs two separate points or a calculation with working.
- You can write on paper first if you like (print the question paper below), then type your answers.
- How marking works here: typed answers (numbers, words, letters and multiple choice) are checked automatically. For written answers you mark yourself: when you finish, compare your answer with the mark scheme shown and give yourself the marks honestly. For number boxes, type the number only — the unit is already shown.
- Your score is a practice score to help you find what to revise. It is not an official Cambridge result.
- Add your two paper scores to get a mark out of 100. Then go through every question you lost marks on — not just the ones you got wrong completely.
- For each lost mark, write down why: did you not know the fact, misread the question, forget the unit or the working, or give only one point for a [2]?
- Joints, muscles and blood (P1 Q1): revisit Joints and Antagonistic Muscles and Blood and Its Components.
- Breathing, alveoli and respiration (P1 Q2, P2 Q2): revisit Breathing, Gas Exchange and Diffusion in the Lungs and Aerobic Respiration.
- Diet and smoking (P2 Q1): revisit A Balanced Diet, Energy Stores and Lifestyle.
- Island food webs and pesticides (P1 Q3, P2 Q3): revisit Ecosystems, Bioaccumulation and Invasive Species.
- Atoms (P1 Q5): revisit The Structure of the Atom. Purity, concentration and chromatography (P1 Q4, Q6, P2 Q5): revisit Purity, Concentration and Chromatography and Impure Products and Solubility of Salts.
- Word equations, temperature changes and metals (P1 Q4, P2 Q6): revisit Word Equations, Exothermic and Endothermic Reactions and The Reactivity of Metals. Solubility graph (P2 Q4): Impure Products and Solubility of Salts.
- Cycling questions (P1 Q7, P2 Q7): revisit Speed and Distance–Time Graphs, Balanced and Unbalanced Forces, and Moments and Pressure, Particles and Diffusion.
- Theatre light questions (P1 Q8, P2 Q8): revisit Reflection and Refraction and Dispersion and Colour. Magnets (P1 Q9, P2 Q9): Magnetic Fields and Electromagnets.
- Space and climate (P1 Q10–11, P2 Q9–10): revisit Galaxies and Asteroids, The Earth's Magnetic Field and Earth's Resources and Climate, Weather and Climate Change.
- Lost marks on variables, anomalies, means, risks or biased sources? Revisit Thinking and Working Scientifically: Models, Investigations and Analysing Results. Then try the test again in a week.
