In the curriculum
- This is a full practice test for Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Science (0097): two papers that cover the whole Stage 6 curriculum.
- Biology: the heart and blood (6Bs.01), the lungs (6Bs.02), growing up (6Bs.03, 6Bp.01), diseases, hygiene and defences (6Bp.02, 6Bp.03, 6Bp.04), food webs, toxins and energy (6Be.01, 6Be.02, 6Be.03)
- Chemistry: melting and boiling points, gases, conductors (6Cp.01, 6Cp.02, 6Cp.03); reversible changes, dissolving, boiling and evaporation, chemical reactions (6Cc.01 to 6Cc.05)
- Physics: mass, weight and gravity, force diagrams, forces and motion, floating and sinking (6Pf.01 to 6Pf.05); reflection and refraction (6Ps.01, 6Ps.02); circuits (6Pe.01, 6Pe.02)
- Earth and space: rocks, fossils and soil (6ESp.01 to 6ESp.04); the rock cycle (6ESc.01); the Solar System and the Moon (6ESs.01, 6ESs.02)
- Thinking and Working Scientifically: variables, fair tests, anomalous results, means, patterns, predictions, graphs and conclusions
Before you start
- What this is: a complete practice test written in the style of the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Science test (0097), taken at the end of Stage 6. Every question is new; the contexts are a family kitchen, a football match, a farm in the Nile Delta, a playground, a night sky observation log and a model boat competition.
- Two papers, like the real test: Paper 1 — 35 minutes, 40 marks. Paper 2 — 35 minutes, 40 marks. That is 80 marks in total. The timer here runs for 35 minutes for each paper.
- Calculator: the cover of the real Paper 1 says "You may use a calculator." For Paper 2, check with your teacher. The numbers in this test are small, so you can also work them out by hand.
- Equipment: a black or dark blue pen, an HB pencil for diagrams and graphs, a ruler and a calculator. In the real test you answer on the question paper, and no extra materials are needed.
- Write on paper first if you like. You can also print the question paper (PDF link above the questions) and do it like a real exam, then type your answers in.
- Look at the marks: [1] = one point; [2] = two separate points, or a point and a reason. Give one answer only — a wrong answer next to a right one loses the mark.
- How marking works here: answers you type (a word, a letter, a number) or choose (multiple choice) are checked automatically. Written explanations are marked by you: when you finish, compare your answer with the mark scheme shown and give yourself the marks you really earned. Be strict, like an examiner.
- Your score is a practice score only. It shows your strengths and weaknesses; it is not an official Cambridge result.
After the test
- Mark honestly. For each written answer, find the marking points in the mark scheme. Give a mark only if your answer says the same science, even in different words.
- Make a mistakes list. For every lost mark, write the question number, the topic and why you lost it (did not know it / misread the question / only one point for a [2] / no unit / read the graph wrongly).
- Revisit the lessons: Paper 1 Q1–Q2 and Paper 2 Q2(d) → *The Heart and Circulatory System* and *The Lungs and Respiratory System*; Paper 2 Q1 → *Human Reproductive System and Puberty*; Paper 1 Q3 → *Diseases, Hygiene and the Body's Defences*; Paper 1 Q4 → *Food Chains, Food Webs, Energy and Toxins*.
- Paper 1 Q5 and Paper 2 Q11 → *Properties of Substances: Melting and Boiling Points, Gases, Conductors*; Paper 1 Q6 → *Chemical Reactions: Reactants, Products and Evidence* and *Reversible Changes and Dissolving*; Paper 2 Q10 → *Boiling and Evaporation* and *Reversible Changes and Dissolving*.
- Paper 2 Q3 → *Mass, Weight and Gravity*; Paper 1 Q7 and Paper 2 Q2 → *Force Diagrams and Forces on Moving Objects*; Paper 2 Q4 → *Floating and Sinking*; Paper 2 Q5 → *Light: Reflection and Refraction*; Paper 2 Q6 → *Electric Circuits, Symbols, Series and Parallel*.
- Paper 1 Q8 → *Rocks and Fossils*; Paper 2 Q7 → *Types of Soil*; Paper 2 Q8 → *The Rock Cycle*; Paper 1 Q9 and Paper 2 Q9 → *The Solar System and the Phases of the Moon*.
- Investigation parts (variables, fair test, anomalous result, mean, pattern, prediction, conclusion) → *Thinking and Working Scientifically: Investigations, Variables, Tables and Graphs*.
- A week later, redo only the questions you got wrong — without looking at the answers. Then try another practice test, timed.
