American Diploma › Digital SAT Reading and Writing — Complete Course

Before you start

This is a complete practice version of the Digital SAT Reading and Writing section: two modules of 27 questions, 32 minutes each (64 minutes in total). Every question has one short passage (or a pair of short passages) and four answer choices, just like the real test, which you take in the Bluebook app. All passages and questions are original.

  • Sit the test in one go, in a quiet place, with your phone away. Allow about 75 minutes: two 32-minute modules and a short pause between them.
  • Keep the timer on. You have about 1 minute 11 seconds per question. If a question is taking too long, choose your best answer, mark it in your head, and move on.
  • Answer every question. There is no penalty for wrong answers on the SAT, so never leave a blank.
  • Within a module you may go back and change answers. Once you finish Module 1, do not go back to it — in the real test you cannot return to Module 1 after Module 2 starts.
  • The questions usually follow the real order: Craft and Structure (vocabulary, purpose, two texts), then Information and Ideas (main idea, evidence, data, inferences), then grammar and punctuation, then transitions and notes questions at the end.
  • Your result is a practice percentage, not an official SAT score. Official scores (200–800 for this section) are calculated by the College Board in a different way, so do not try to convert your percentage into a scaled score.
After the test
  • Read every explanation, including those for questions you got right: check that you chose the answer for the right reason, not by luck.
  • List your weak skills. Use your score by skill and write down every skill where you lost two or more questions, plus the trap that caught you (reversed, too extreme, half-right, off-topic, nearest-noun, comma splice…).
  • Go back to the matching lessons: Words in Context and High-Value Vocabulary for SAT Reading and Writing; Text Structure and Purpose; Cross-Text Connections; Central Ideas and Details; Command of Evidence: Textual; Command of Evidence: Quantitative; Inferences; Sentence Boundaries; Commas and Extra Information; Colons, Dashes and Semicolons; Subject–Verb Agreement; Pronouns; Verb Tense, Aspect and Finiteness; Modifiers, Parallel Structure and Comparisons; Plurals and Possessives; Transitions; Rhetorical Synthesis.
  • Redo every question you missed after the lesson, without looking at the explanation, and say aloud why each wrong choice is wrong.
  • Check your timing. If you did not finish a module, practise with Time Strategy and How to Attack Every Question before your next full test.
