Grammar: much / many / a lot of / a few / a little · too / enough

much + uncountable (much salt) · many + countable (many eggs) — mostly in negatives and questions

a lot of / lots of + both, especially in positive sentences

a few + countable (a few times) · a little + uncountable (a little oil)

too + adjective (too hot) · too much / too many + noun · adjective + enough (fit enough) · enough + noun (enough sleep)

يترجم العربي «جدًا» دائمًا إلى too، فيقول The food is too delicious ✗. الصحيح very delicious؛ لأن too معناها «أكثر من اللازم» وفيها مشكلة. وانتبه لمكان enough: يأتي بعد الصفة (old enough) وقبل الاسم (enough money)، فلا تقل enough old ✗. ولا تقل many water أو much eggs: much مع غير المعدود، و many مع المعدود.

Write & Speak

Write & Speak — “Is my lifestyle healthy?”: write 80–100 words about your habits. Use much, many, a lot of, a few, a little, too and enough, and say what you want to change. Then give a friend three pieces of advice about healthy living (use should).

Example: I think my lifestyle is quite healthy, but it isn't perfect. I eat a lot of vegetables and a little fruit every day, and I drink plenty of water. However, I drink too many cups of tea, and I put too much sugar in them. I don't get enough exercise, because I work long hours, and I only walk a few times a week. I also spend too much time on my phone at night, so I don't get enough sleep. This month I'm going to cut down on tea and go jogging three times a week.
