Checkpoint 6 Maths — Practice Test 3

A full timed Checkpoint-style Maths test — Paper 1 without a calculator and Paper 2 with one, 45 minutes and 40 marks each — set at a school fun fair, a model-car workshop, a swimming gala, a farm and a bookshop sale, with automatic marking, a mark scheme and full worked solutions.

Before you start

  • This is a full practice test in the style of the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Mathematics (0096) test, which is taken at the end of Cambridge Primary and tests what you know at the end of Stage 6. It covers the whole Stage 6 curriculum: number, geometry and measure, and statistics and probability.
  • There are two papers. Each paper lasts 45 minutes and is worth 40 marks (80 marks in total). The timer starts when you press Start.
  • Paper 1: no calculator. The numbers are chosen so that you can work everything out by hand. Paper 2: you may use a calculator. Its questions are longer, real-life problems.
  • Equipment: a black or dark blue pen, an HB pencil for diagrams, compasses and a protractor (tracing paper is optional). For this practice test, keep some plain and squared paper and a ruler next to you for the drawing questions.
  • You can write your answers on paper first if you like — download the question paper (PDF), do the test the real way, then type your answers in or mark them with the mark scheme (PDF).
  • How marking works here: typed answers (numbers, coordinates, short answers and multiple choice) are checked automatically. Written answers (explanations and drawings) you mark yourself at the end: compare your answer with the mark scheme and give yourself only the marks you have really earned.
  • For 2-mark questions that say "show your working", write your method on paper. In the real test a correct method can earn 1 mark even if the final answer is wrong.
  • Your score is a practice score to show you what to revise. It is not an official Cambridge result.

After the test
  • Check every wrong answer. Read the worked solution, then cover it and do the question again on paper until you can explain each step yourself.
  • Mark your written answers strictly. An explanation earns the mark only if it gives the reason in the mark scheme — "No" or "Yes" on its own scores nothing.
  • Sort your mistakes: a fact you did not know, a calculation slip, a misread question, a missing unit, or not showing working on a 2-mark question. Slips and misreading are the quickest to fix.
  • Number — revisit: *Counting On and Back and Negative Numbers*; *Sequences, Letters and Position-to-Term Rules*; *Order of Operations, Brackets and Laws of Arithmetic*; *Multiplying Whole Numbers (up to 10 000 × 2-digit)*; *Dividing Whole Numbers (up to 1000 ÷ 2-digit)*; *Factors, Multiples and Tests of Divisibility*; *Square Numbers and Cube Numbers*; *Place Value and Decimals to Thousandths*; *Rounding Decimals*.
  • Fractions, decimals, percentages and ratio — revisit: *Fractions: Division, Operators and Simplest Form*; *Adding and Subtracting Fractions*; *Multiplying and Dividing Fractions by Whole Numbers*; *Fractions, Decimals and Percentages: Equivalence and Ordering*; *Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing Decimals*; *Ratio and Direct Proportion*.
  • Geometry and measure — revisit: *Time: Decimals and Mixed Units*; *Quadrilaterals: Properties and Classification*; *Circles: Parts and Constructing Circles*; *Angles: Measuring, Drawing and Angles in a Triangle*; *Area of Rectangles and Right-angled Triangles*; *3D Shapes, Compound Shapes and Nets*; *Capacity, Volume and Surface Area*; *Coordinates in Four Quadrants*; *Rotational Symmetry, Translation, Reflection and Rotation*.
  • Statistics and probability — revisit: *Collecting and Representing Data*; *Mode, Median, Mean and Range, and Interpreting Data*; *Probability*.
  • If you took Practice Tests 1 and 2, compare your three scores paper by paper. A strand where you keep losing marks is the one to study first.
